Curtains Collection®

My Curtains Collection® integrates some of the patterns of curtain-like designs that graced film production sets, fashion, recording studios and even game shows from the 60 ‘s and 70’s.  These are based on deep-seated images embedded in childhood memories.

For example, the “Rita” vessel is inspired by an elegant gown academy award winning actress Rita Colton wore on the cover of Life magazine.

Colton started her career as a post war model and became a star known both for her alluring roles in late 1940’s movies as well as a stint on The Honeymooners TV show.

As a child I remember taking note of patterns on curtains, back drops, stage designs and realizing that metaphorically we all have curtains—you might even say curtain calls. Depending on who we are surrounded by, we might ring the curtain up or ring the curtain down.  And we have all experienced the final curtain on careers, relationships, behaviors or beliefs that no longer sustain us.

And there is the ever-changing cast of characters in our lives as well. Depending on who we are in front of, and who we are speaking to we change our voice and our dialogue, the tone of the conversation, adapting naturally to what cast member is featured on our personal stage.

In fact, many times while starting my own day, I will have a sort of mini “dress rehearsal” of the people I’ll be meeting and I might even ad-lib the directions a conversation may…or may not go.

“We are all just little dolls of ourselves who occasionally pull back the curtains to reveal the real us.”
